Tachyon v1.08 for Pocket PC

Description:
Astronomy software for amateurs and professionals.
Features:
Has many features and tools, including: wireless telescope control; up to 20th magnitude star maps (Hipparcus, GSC); astroids/comets; calculators; ephemrides; tours and much more... Despite being a little old (last update 2006) this app is better than others, with the the exception of Astromist - hopefully someone will crack this soon
How to Install Tachyon in your PDA and PC
YOU NEED A POCKET PC with a STORAGE CARD and at least WM2003SE operating system. WM2006 already has NET CF libraries installed.
Installing NET Libraries 2.0
To prepare Tachyon to be installed you must consider to get both versions of Microsoft NET library that are necessary to a successful installation. You can get NET Framework Library Installation software for Windows here and for POCKETPC here. To install Windows version you must have Administrator privileges. To install POCKETPC version you will need to attach your PDA with your computer and sync. After that, run Microsoft NET Framework installation software.
PDA INSTALLATION
Unzip the downloaded files with folder structure anywhere in your PC. We recommend that you unzip in a folder called "Tachyon" to be easier to find.
Tachyon is a very complex software and, sometimes, with a steep learning curve of its more sophisticated functions. That way, be patient.
You can see in the unzipped folder two distinct executable files. To install Tachyon in your PDA, we will execute TachyonPDASetup.exe. But before executing this file please connect your PDA to PC and synchronize. After that you can proceed with installation. After a initial message remembering to connect PDA to PC, you are in the main installation screen. At left topmost of dialog there is a button with a small PDA. Press it. Upon agreeing with the EULA you will define if you want the full installation. If so, please check all checkboxes. After that you will pick up the destination of Tachyon in your PDA. We strongly recommend the use of a Storage Card as Tachyon is very heavy to be installed in Main Memory.
Tachyon is a big software with a lot of files. That way let installation proceed and take a cup of coffee :). It is a lengthy process.
After installation you will have an icon in your PDA to run Tachyon.
You are done. Take a look at "Starting With Tachyon" brochure, that is available in your Tachyon folder in PC, to have a view of Tachyon functions. We are trying to enhance this manual and Tachyon help system and, from time to time, you will have updated information available in the FORUM. The Manual in Tachyon in PDA is very detailed in terms of Astronomy. Some articles came from Wikipedia, some others from specialized sites. It is almost an astronomical encyclopedia.
MANUAL INSTALLATION
If for some reason you cannot install using setup you can manually move the files directly to your PDA. Simply goes to folder "install" and copy all files and folders to your storage card. Do a shortcut to tachyonnet.exe and you are done.
Important for non-US users
Tachyon needs “.” as a decimal separator to work correctly.
Requirements:
* Pocket PC Windows Mobile

Orrery Application v1.0 Build 603

Description:
Orrery is an application for Ewe enabled computers to show the Solar System in action. Orrery shows positions of the planets with respect to the Sun at any desired date. It may be animated for the future or the past. Orrery displays a variety of data, both angle and distance information.
The first orrery was conceived by English clockmaker and inventor George Graham (c.1674-1751) around 300 years ago. This initial model only showed the earth-moon system which orbits our Sun. Graham gave the design of this original model to the celebrated London instrument maker John Rowley, who was commissioned to make one for his patron Charles Boyle (1674-1731). Boyle's patronage of Rowley soon led to the elaboration of Graham's invention so that it included all the known planets and some moons of the solar system.
Orrery.ewe is an application for Ewe enabled computers to show the Solar System in action.
It graphically shows and animates the positions of the eight planets with respect to the Sun, as well as displaying angle and distance information.
To use this version of Orrery you must install a Ewe¹ VM (Virtual Machine) on your computer. Ewe is a version of Java which runs on a variety of desktop and handheld computers. It is very compact and efficient. It uses only about 2 Mbytes of memory.
To learn more about Ewe please read the introduction on the Bray Mobile Applications page.
Orrery is an application that shows a simulated view of the Sun and its eight planets from above the orbit plane. It will also display:
* The distance to the Sun and Earth for each planet.
* The angular separation between the Earth and each planet.
* A matrix of distances between each of the Sun and planets. The distance units can be Astronomical Units (AU), Kilometers, and Statute Miles. (one AU is the distance between the Earth and the Sun.)
* A matrix of angular separation between each of the planets, in degrees.
The Orrery display can be animated with time steps as specified.
The dwarf planet Pluto is included in a very limited way. You can choose to have Pluto shown at a fixed position in the "Equal Distance" view, but no data is given for it.
It takes Pluto 90465 days to circle the Sun! In the animation mode of Orrery, Pluto would show very little motion. No "planetary theory" has been constructed for Pluto because since it discovery in 1930 it has moved less than 1/3 of it orbit around the Sun. Any orbital data included in this application would only be accurate for a "short period" of time.
Requirements:
- Pocket PC Windows Mobile
- Ewe Emulator:
for 240x320
for 480x640
