Description:
If you like to experiment with brain waves, you can now carry a portable brain wave synchronizer in your pocket.
SBaGen is Jim Peters' open source binaural beat program. Brain waves are classified into four rough bands:
* Delta - .5-3Hz - deep sleep
* Theta - 4-7 Hz - dreaming and intuitive stuff
* Alpha - 8-13 Hz - awake, focused inside
* Beta - >= 14Hz - awake, focused outside
It is thought that exposing the brain to these frequencies will allow you to "entrain" or guide your brain into one of the above states. A variety of methods have been devised, using light and sound, to encourage the brain into the desired state. The light method usually involves goggles and blinking lights flashing directly into your closed eyelids. Since the frequencies are too low to be heard by the ears, the binaural beat technique was devised. It uses the same principle that guitar players use to tune their instruments.. when you play two notes that are very close to each other, there is a sort of beating phenomenon, which increases in frequency as the notes become close to each other. The theory behind binaural beats is that if you apply slightly different frequency sine waves to each ear, the beats will cause the brain to synchronize with them.
You can learn more about Binaural Beats from the SBaGen website, or by simply plugging "binaural beats" into your favorite Internet search engine.
To install SBaGen CE,
1. Download the binary distribution: sbagence-ppc2003-1.4.3.zip.
2. Copy sbagence.exe to your Pocket PC. You can use ActiveSync, or even run it directly from a CF or SD card.
3. Copy the sample SBG sequence files to your My Documents folder. You can create a My Documents folder on a storage card, if you like.
4. Tap the "Open SBG" button, and select the sequence that you would like to play.
5. You must wear headphones to listen to binaural beats. Listening through loudspeakers will lessen the beating effect.
